Q was from a race of semi omnipotent beings called the Q Continuim.

Recent History

Q was claims to have been a dear friend of Rathal before his incend with the Borg. He claims that the two of them got in more trouble together than Sarci and Korra did in their lifetime. 

Q is one of the beings within the Q continuim who manages the timeline of this universe.
